Meet Seth - Get Into participant and buddy staff
Current employees play important mentoring roles in every Get Into program. They develop leadership skills as they coach participants through the job shadowing portion of the program. Seth, after successfully completing the Get Into program and getting hired by Cineplex, was given the opportunity to become a “Buddy Staff” himself.
“I was jobless and struggling to find work for a year. At the same time, my dad was also struggling to find work, so things were tight. I got really tired of feeling useless and when I heard about the Get Into program, I signed up immediately.
After the program, I got a call from the General Manager of Cineplex. I was with some friends and as soon as I was off the phone they asked, “Did you get it?” and I was sobbing, “I got the job!” I was so excited. I felt useful again. Part of society. Human.
The team at Cineplex is amazing. They want to see you grow and after working for them for only a few months, I was given the chance to be a Buddy Staff for a new group of Get Into participants.
It felt really good to support someone else. I was once in their position and I learned a lot when I went through the program. I was happy to be sharing that with others and liked seeing them succeed.
I wanted to get the experience because I want to grow with the company and it showed my potential.
Being selected as a Buddy Staff showed me that they trust me to do a good job and seeing myself succeed opened me up to new possibilities. I know now that I can achieve more!”
Seth says that over the past seven months his life has completely changed. He’s gone from being “stuck in the mud” to having a leadership position for a great company. He’s confidently working towards a promotion, committed to doing his best and proud to be making a difference to others.
