Prince's Trust Canada Announces Farah Mohamed as CEO

Tuesday, August 16, 2022

Prince’s Trust Canada (PTC), a national charity with a mandate to create more sustainable, equitable and future-ready communities, announces the appointment of Farah Mohamed as Chief Executive Officer. Mohamed will succeed retiring CEO Sharon Broughton, whose final day with PTC will be September 30, 2022.

At PTC, Mohamed will further the organization’s vision as it develops opportunities for equity-deserving young jobseekers to explore, prepare for and gain access to purposeful employment, and offers Veterans the resources, skill-development and mentorship needed to become successful entrepreneurs.

“I am honoured to be named CEO of Prince’s Trust Canada and look forward to helping young people and Veterans thrive in work and life,” says Mohamed. “Youth are our future. By investing in them, we can break down systemic barriers for equity-deserving youth, design new pathways to success and empower young people to improve life for themselves and their communities.”

“Mohamed’s rich global perspective, environmental mindset, extensive experience bridging the educational divide for women and girls, and shared vision for a sustainable world makes her the ideal choice for PTC’s next CEO,” says PTC’s Chair, Mark Fell. “Together, we can build on the strategic groundwork we have laid and continue to help young people and Veterans in Canada access the competencies and resources they need to gain meaningful employment in green and socially responsible industries, and ultimately, build a more resilient future for everyone.”

Mohamed brings more than 25 years of experience creating and leading national and international organizations and social impact initiatives and as an independent director for boards and charitable organizations. She comes to PTC from Canada’s Forest Trust Corporation where she served as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to that, she was CEO of Malala Fund, where she led global efforts to further Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai’s mission to educate millions of girls. She also founded FORA (previously called G(irls)20) to cultivate a new generation of leaders by empowering girls and women through education, entrepreneurship, and global experiences. She is currently a sought-after global speaker, and a board member for Music Canada, RefugeePoint and Cameras for Girls. Farah will be joining Canada Forest Trust’s corporate board.

Under Broughton’s leadership as CEO, a new strategic plan was launched in alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, with a vision focused on pillars of equity and sustainability. During her tenure, the charity’s award-winning Operation Entrepreneur program has supported Veterans across Canada build successful, sustainable businesses. With a goal of championing sustainable solutions for a green recovery, new youth skill development and employment programs have been piloted, helping young jobseekers to gain skills and confidence for the transforming world of work. In the coming weeks, the Board and PTC staff will celebrate her exceptional leadership and resourceful stewardship during the pandemic. Broughton looks forward to supporting a seamless transition to Mohamed’s leadership as she begins her role.
